Panda diplomacy!

Panda diplomacy (Chinese: 熊猫外交) is the practice of sending giant pandas from China to other countries as a tool of diplomacy and wildlife conservation.

From 1941 to 1984, the Chinese government gifted pandas to other countries. Since 1984, they have been leased rather than gifted due to a PRC policy change.

Smithsonian National Zoo's giant panda program ends after more than 50 years as pandas head back to China.

Their departure marks the end of more than 50 years of Chinese pandas being housed at the zoo, which was the first US zoo to showcase the bears as part of what's been called "panda diplomacy."

Beijing's panda diplomacy with Washington kicked off in 1972, following President Richard Nixon's historic visit to China.
