Quentin Tarantino is back to form after his last effort, the disappointing Death Proof.
Well told WW II revenge fantasy, I'm sure some Jewish people really wished the ending of Hitler was really like it was in the movie.
There's definitely violence but not as heavy as previous Tarantino films, with excellent dialogue. And Christoph Waltz as Hans Landa is a scene stealer, and his scene at the beginning of the film is one of the best opening scenes of the year, and is a lock for an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor.

Edgey and very real feeling, I thought that the film was a great tribute to EOD soldiers, as it seems we never really hear about them. I couldn't imagine doing that job day in and day out in extreme heat and long hours as stressful as that position is. Well written film by Mark Boals who is a shoe in for an Oscar nod for original screenplay, and impressively directed by Kathryn Bigelow ( Point Break, K:19 Widowmaker ) who just might be the first female director to win an Oscar.
Fairly newcomer, Jeremy Renner is getting several critic's awards, but the entire cast was solid. Great film.

The Messenger (2009)
Very moving film with 3 good performances by Ben Foster, Woody Harrelson and Samantha Morton. This is another job in the military that many non service men and women do not know about. Informing loved ones that their son or daughter have been killed in action is a job I would not want. And these characters resonate with you. They put you right there as what it might be or feel like to be the Messneger of bad news.

Very enjoyable movie going experience. I just found it hard to not feel ebullient while witnessing this film. Some of the best visual effects of all time. Already is # 7 of all time earning's with 429 million made and climbing.
Could there be a possiblity it can catch Titanic ? How ironic that would be since that was a James Cameron film as well.

I was very aware of this film as I am a closet Cormac McCarthy fan. His prose is not for everybody, but I liked the book that eventually won the Pulitzer Prize.
I have ready many thoughts about this film, many from people that haven't seen it yet that feel it's way too depressing of a premise. They are correct, but there's more to it. It's about the human spirit and forging on and not giving up in dire situations. Viggo Mortenson does a near career best performance as The Man trying to survive in a post apocalyptic America. Impressive art direction and I applaud director John Hillcoat ( The Proposition ) for tackling material that not easy to do.

Crazy Heart (2009)
I don't loathe country music like some people but it's by far my favorte style of music either. But I can appreciate a great perfomance by a great actor, and this is no exception considering Jeff Bridges as Bad Blake. A worm out, burned out alcholic country and western singer trying to make one more run of it.
After seeing the film, I could not picture anyone but him in the role. He fits in the role like a well worn glove. But has he ever been not impressive ? Even in not so good movies Bridges is solid.
I think he deserves the best actor Oscar. I will also add that the supporting cast of Maggie Gyllenhaal, Robert Duvall and Colin Farrell are also solid in their performance.

George Clooney's career best performance. With good performances with the supporting cast as well. Jason Reitman wrote and directed the film proving that he's not just a fluke, one note filmmaker.

The Cove (2009)
This documentary affected me very powerfully. After seeing this dilm you will think differently about dolphins. My second favorite mammal. Maybe that's why this film got to me as I just love dolphins.

I didn't think I would like this but after seeong it I thought it was very clever and a highly original premise. Good visual effects and outstanding art direction and cinematography. The film made me think
" what if " on many different levels.

Star Trek (2009)
If you want non stop action and fun charatcers to follow, you can't go wrong with this version of Star Trek. You'd have to have no pulse not to enjoy this film and I'm not even a Trekkie either.
You heard it hear that you will see much more from Chris Evans. He made a good young James T. Kirk. The rest of the cast was good also. I could watch this film many times and not be bored of it. I also liked Eric Bana as the main villain.
