My Top 10 N64 Games

Sort by: Showing 10 items
Rating: List Type:
Nostalgia glasses on: Greatest game of all time. Nostalgia glasses off: still the greatest game of all time. I cannot think of my childhood without thinking of this game. If there is one game that I wish I could re-experience for the first time, it would be this game. Obviously haters are gonna hate and say that this game hasn't aged well and that is not the best game ever, but if you were born anywhere from 1987-1992 and played this game, chances are you all feel this game is special. The only thing this game is missing is Tingle...aaand that joke fell flat. But seriously best game ever

Super Mario 64 - Nintendo 64
Classic dessert island scenario. If I was stuck on a dessert island with one game, this would be the game in my satchel that somehow survived the catastrophic plane crash...but I digress. Super Mario 64 is a masterpiece in gaming. It has an infinite amount of Replayability to me. This game just oozes magic and will always hold a special place in my heart. Like I said its my second favorite game of all...which means you prrrrobably know what #1 is huh?

Super Smash Bros. - Nintendo 64
The original and pioneer of the Smash brothers series, and still my favorite of the bunch. Fighting games have never have been my favorite genre of games but for whatever reason, Smash transcends fighting games to me and created its own personal genre. To this day, nearly 20 years after release, its still the multi-player game of choice for me and my friends. Just don't you dare take White and Pink Captain Falcon. That's my BAE

Banjo-Kazooie - Nintendo 64
Banjo Kazooie is one of the only games that has ever made me laugh out loud. This game does everything right and gives you everything you could ever want in a 3D platformer and is mere centimeters away from being on par with Mario 64. And that is not a knock on Banjo, that is high praise from me as Mario 64 is my second favorite game of all time(so...obviously we will be seeing Mario in a few seconds). But honestly comparing Banjo Kazooie to Mario 64 is an injustice to Banjo because quite frankly Banjo Kazooie is an amazing experience and one that stands on it's own.

Paper Mario - Nintendo 64
My gosh is Paper Mario such a fantastic game. Its crazy how many people ended up skipping this game because Square wasn't involved. And for people that didn't play this game, I feel sooooooooo bad for them. While not the most complex RPG out there, it has a deep and rich combat system, amazing characters, and vibrant locales. While many people at the time thought the graphics were subpar, Paper Mario has turned out to be one of the better aging N64 games in terms of graphics.

Diddy Kong Racing - Nintendo 64
There may only be a few of us, but I always have been and always will be on team Diddy over team Mario. Diddy Kong racing has one of my favorite video game soundtracks ever. Add in a unique adventure mode, 3 different vehicle choices, tons of tracks and multiplayer modes, and I think my choice of DKR over MK64 is justified (in my mind at least).

While it may look and play like a Ocarina of Time clone, Mystical Ninja starring Goemon, is an insanely fun and unique game that actually came out a year before Ocarina. The humor is very Japenese as is the setting, but there is no denying the fun I had playing this game even if I didn't understand all the jokes. Goemon is a superstar in Japan, and it's a shame that his popularity never caught on as much here in the states. However, there is one thing that Mystical Ninja has that Zelda never has had and probably never will: Giant Fighting Rollarblading Robot Mechs.

Pokémon Snap - Nintendo 64
Pokémon Snap came out at the pinnacle of Pokémon popularity (now THATS a tongue twister) and right as I was getting out of Pokemon. This game is the sole reason that I stayed invested in the franchise for just a while longer. Seriously all you do is take pictures, but its so dang addicting!! And it was oddly satisfying throwing pester balls un-expecting meowths. If this game came out today PETA would have a field day. I recall renting it SO many times that I probably paid twice as much as if I would have just bought it.

Mega Man 64 - Nintendo 64
Considered to be an inferior port of the original Mega Man Legends for the PS1, I absolutely loved Mega Man 64. The setting, the music, heck even the story was pretty good. While I understand peoples complaints about the game, I enjoyed Mega Man 64 and think its a lot better than most people give it credit for. And if you disagree...well you deserve a swift kick to the Volnutts (see what I did there?)

GoldenEye 007 - Nintendo 64
I'm gonna be honest here...Goldeneye scared the pants off me as an 8 year old kid. It was simply too darn real looking! And while I was never very good at the game, it was freaking amazing getting to play as James Bond with all his awesome gadgets. Golden gun anyone? Plus the multiplayer was the bees knees back in 1998. My friends and I would love the 2 awards given out at the end of each match even though I never understood how sometimes I would get Most Honorable and Most Dishonorable in the same match?
