Cryptid: Sasquatch
Although the movie is called "Abominable", it is NOT about the Yeti of the Himalayas, but of Sasquatch (or Bigfoot) itself. Now, despite the title / cryptid confusion, this is top-notch, probably best Bigfoot flick to ever see the light of day? Sure, maybe. I definitely believe (hah, get it?) in the top five best films related to the creature, but also as just a creature-feature type of film, it's got most of those beat as well. Sasquatch, with no contest, has the most films of all cryptids and that's very telling. Most of the other films only get as good as average, but imo this one comes out on top as the best one yet!

The Mothman Prophecies (2002)
Cryptid: Mothman
Ah, yes.. the red-eyed flying omen of doom, known simply as... The Mothman. If you already know the story, well.. then you know and "if you know", then you'd agree this is the best adaptation and overall produced film based on the subject matter. Sure, Mothman is not ever presented as an actual flesh and blood creature, but the way this film goes about it... it keeps the mystery all that much scarier. I definitely recommend this flick! Hell, it even has a top-notch cast with Richard Gere and Laura Linney.

Crytid: The Jersey Devil
I definitely recommend this film, especially for a movie based on the Jersey Devil. I've seen a couple of others, but none of them are as good (quality) nor have the budget as this one. If you haven't ever seen a Jersey Devil flick, then this one is the first and maybe only one you should check out.

The Beast of Bray Road (2005)
Cryptid: Dogman
So, this horror film I saw as a kid way back when it had first appeared on the SciFi channel and back then, it had a lasting impression on me. Up to that point, I probably hadn't seen that many "werewolf" types of films, but this one.. I had no idea it was based on an actual creature. Now, of course, this is the "beast of bray road" which was spotted in Wisconsin, whereas the infamous Dogman is known in Michigan. Either way, it's practically the same creature(s), so I guess it doesn't really matter all that much.
So, the monster effects are great, gore is awesome and the overall tone / atmosphere is what you'd expect for a horror movie made back in 2005. I highly recommend it, check it out when you get the time!

Antlers (2021)
Cryptid: Wendigo
Ngl, I wasn't aware whatsoever that this particular film had to do with the Wendigo creature of Native American folklore as the title "Antlers" didn't really boggle anything in my mind at the time. But, with that said, going into it with a completely open and non-bias perspective, it came out really good. I was scared that because it was a newer film, that it would be destroyed (take me out of the film) by terrible CGI as I'm not a fan of it when it comes to horror films (horror should be raw / practical imo), but by my surprise, it had little to no CG that I can recall. The actual Wendigo creature was done very well and the tone of the film really helped "seal the deal" when viewing it for the first time.
If you're a fan of wendigo or just psychological horror films in general, this one is definitely a recommended viewing experience!

Frogman (2023)
Cryptid: Frogman
Based on the Loveland, Ohio Amphibian-cryptid of the same name, this is the only film ever created of this particular creature. Not nearly as famous as those like Bigfoot or Nessie, but it doesn't need to be either, now does it? A film like this, it could've been done in anyway, shape or form... whatever genre someone wanted, but hell.. someone was smart enough to take the material / history of said cryptid serious enough that they created a pretty damn good found footage horror film. And, compared to most found footage flicks out there, this one is one of the more interesting ones, especially for the 2020's - which thus far, hasn't had that many great films in general.. but that's just me (maybe?)
Anyways, I totally recommend this one!

Red Billabong (2016)
Cryptid: Bunyip
As far as I know, this is the only time a movie based on the Australian cryptid known as the "Bunyip" was ever produced and from what I can tell, it's the only one worth watching. Now, is it a masterpiece? No, but it's pretty darn good for what it is. It's very hard to make a quality film based on cryptid, especially one that isn't as widely-known to general audiences, so for what it's worth, I still recommend it.
