Sofia Coppola
Sofia Coppola is no stranger to female led films (of course why shouldn't she be), and as the daughter of legendary filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola she has a wide understanding of films. The Heathers is considered a indie film, and Sofia has been a prominent figure in the indie film community. Her style is very lavish and colorful aesthetic which would fit with the film.

Joss Whedon
Whedon is a heavy-hitter director most notable for his tv work like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and comic book adaptions like the Avengers. He is a huge and famous advocate for having more diverse female-lead roles, and it shows in his work. He also great at handling an assemble with big personalities.

Veronica Sawyer
The ultimate badass high school heroine. Veronica is the titular leading character who joined the popular clique the Heathers, only to accidentally kill the leader of the group, and madness ensues. What makes Veronica awesome is how she grows into her own person, and breaks out of the cliche high school role. She's smart and always has witty comeback. And when things go sour she gets conflicted, but tries to redeem herself. Veronica, I salute you!

Maisie Williams
Veronica is a strong-willed, feisty character. Judging her performance in Game of Thrones, and the film The Falling, Maisie can accentuate those aspects of the character, and give us a more complex and badass version of Veronica.

Amandla Stenberg
She is very talented and I think taking on this iconic role would put on her on the forefront.

Chloe Grace Moretz
Veronica is a character most teenagers and young adults can relate to. A part of her character arc is trying to find a place to fit in, but also stay to true to herself. Chloe is great young actress like Maisie, and can add the humanity, and convey the angst teenagers go through with a bit of cute charisma.

Daisy Ridley
Veronica is cute, quirky and oozes charisma even when she does something wrong. Daisy proven that she is all three of those qualities from Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Hailee Steinfeld
Hailee is rising star with a lot of charm and can dish out the attitude with tons of humor.

Jason Dean (J.D.)
Cool, seductive, and a complete psychopath. J.D is the love interest turn antagonist to Veronica in the film. This leading guy is the new kid in Veronica's school who leaves a hell of impression with his bad boy charm and dark sense humor. He catches Veronica's eye and takes her on bloody adventures as he kills off the popular kids, including the popular leader of the Heathers.

Heathers (1988) is one my favorites of movies of all the time. It is far from your regular high school drama movie. Its funny, suspenseful, and original. It's pretty much like Mean Girls with a sadistic twist.
I'm not saying Hollywood should remake this film (they shouldn't) because the material is really easy for Hollywood to screw up...But if they did and I had control of the cast this is what I would want.
