My Favourite Places
My heart is at Caminha, Portugal. Most beautiful place I've been: Lake Maggiore, Italy. Most exciting holidays: Marrakesh, Caribbean islands. Happiest time: Paris, Easter 1982. Most exciting day: Santander, Spain to Caminha, Portugal, May 23rd 2005. Beautiful moment: seeing the Green Ray at Aruba.
Zermatt, Switzerland would have been here but I was really looking forward to seeing the famous Matterhorn and the top half was covered in cloud. My wife really liked it but I was disappointed. I would also have liked Austria more but for the rain all week: I was looking forward to sunny Alpine meadows as in The Sound of Music. We enjoyed walking down the Hahnenkamm mountain at Kitzbuhel in torrential downpour though.
Some near misses; Tunisia was fine but not as exciting as Morocco. Corfu (like Turkey) had mishaps and the weather was unusually mixed. Friendly people there and Turkey. Gothenburg in Sweden was pleasant but the autumn North Sea crossings were very stormy.
