I'm not sure how I became a fan of t.A.T.u., but by now, it doesn't matter much. I love both the Russian and English versions of the tune "Not Gonna Get Us" or "Nas Ne Dagoniat," as well as "All the Things She Said" and "Show Me Love."

Automaticluv - Danny Fernandes
My sister is more of a fan of Danny Fernandes than I am, but I really love the song "Hit Me Up" off this album. It features Josh Ramsay, who is part of the band Marianas Trench, which comes up at the end of this list. Together, they make a pretty catchy song.

By the Way - Red Hot Chili Peppers
This one was recommended by a friend who loves bands like Pearl Jam and obviously the Red Hot Chili Peppers. My favourite song, hands down, off this album is "Can't Stop." "I Could Die for You" comes in at a close second.

Confessions - Usher
This one was recommended to me by a friend whose music taste I wasn't yet sure of, but judging by this album alone, I'll be taking her choices into consideration in the future. Once you set aside Usher's personal life (admittedly repugnant), he has a pretty good singing voice. My favourites are "Bad Girl" and "Yeah!"

Corinne Bailey Rae - Corinne Bailey Rae
Corinne is one of my all-time favourite musicians. She has only released two albums (the second of which I can't locate on this site) but I love them both. I desperately want her to come to Canada and do a show, but so far, my hopes have been unsuccessful at bringing about a reality. :( "Like a Star" is playing at my wedding, no question about it. She writes all her own songs, too. I adore musicians who are their own composers as well.

Evanescence - Evanescence
I've said all I need to say with 'Fallen.' They haven't lost their voice in this album - "My Heart is Broken," "Swimming Home" and "Erase This" are my favourites.

Ever After - Marianas Trench
Initially, my favourite song off this album was "Fallout" and though it still is, I have developed a fondness for "Ever After" and "Toy Soldiers." Apparently the album in its entirety tells a story about a prince rescuing a princess, and each song is a part of that story, while still maintaining its own individuality. I think that is amazingly cool, and that is why I've included it on this list.

Fallen - Evanescence
Evanescence has long been hailed as a gothic, hard rock band who, according to older people (my parents) is for those who are depressed. WRONG. Amy Lee has a great, powerful voice. The lyrics are, at their worst, passable, but at their best, fantastic. I listen to them when I'm angry and when I'm happy. If not that, then I'm just partial to their music. "My Immortal," hands down, is a fantastic song.

Femme Fatale - Britney Spears
Yes, I know. 'She has no talent.' 'She's overrated.' But I can't help it if her songs are catchy! I'm sorry! ~ "Drop Dead Beautiful" and "I Wanna Go" are my guilty pleasures.
transparentworld's rating:
This soundtrack is poignant and profound. Perhaps it's because of the fact that it means a decade of Harry Potter is coming to an end, or just because of the genius of Alexandre Desplat. "Courtyard Apocalypse" never ceases to bring tears to my eyes.

Just the Hits - Cascada
Cascada! No deep lyrics with this gal, just mindless fun, which is needed once in a while. "Everytime We Touch" and "Bad Boy" (the female version of "Bad Girl," naturally) are my preferred tracks.

lovestrong. - Christina Perri
This is her only album (to my knowledge, correct me if I'm wrong) but I'm already looking forward to her future works. She has a great voice, and her lyrics are adorable - "Penguin" especially. "Jar of Hearts" is a bit weird, in terms of lyrics, but I'll give her the benefit of the doubt because she didn't write that one.

Masterpiece Theatre - Marianas Trench
Though Marianas Trench bears much similarity to Hedley, another Canadian band, I prefer the former's songs. "Masterpiece Theatre: Part I" is an interesting piece of music to listen to - I also loved "Cross My Heart," "All to Myself" and "Beside You." Josh Ramsay has a mournful kind of voice that lends itself well to songs of unrequited love and hopeless infatuation. ;D

Measure of a Man - Clay Aiken
Clay Aiken hasn't released a new album in quite a while, and this is the only album by him that I've listened to, but I love it. He has an angelic-sounding voice. The songs he performs are the kind that should be played at weddings (except "Invisible" - that's just creepy). He's adorable. "The Way" and "Measure of a Man" are the best, in my opinion.

Savage Garden - Savage Garden
Savage Garden's eponymous first album. Many of the songs on this one didn't make the 'best' but I love them all the same - "I Want You," "Carry On Dancing," and "Tears of Pearls" in particular.

Shall We Dance? - Peter Gabriel, Gabriel Yared, Jamie Cullum, Various Artists
I haven't yet seen the movie for this soundtrack, but the music is enough to push me in that direction. My favourites are "Sway," "Santa Maria," and "Andalucia."

Slumdog Millionaire - Original Soundtrack
A.R. Rahman has two Oscars to his name because of Slumdog Millionaire and this soundtrack - one for the song "Jai Ho" and the other for the CD at large. "Latika's Theme" is particularly beautiful to listen to, when coupled with the trials she must go through in the film. I'd say Rahman's Oscars are well-deserved.

Spirit - Leona Lewis
She has a lovely singing voice. It's quite powerful and emotive, especially in her song "Bleeding Love" (which was written and also sung by Jesse McCartney, but I don't think he does it justice). This whole album is comprised of breakup songs, though. Unfortunate for her, but a blessing in disguise for us. :D

The Collection - Alanis Morissette
A Canadian gal, like myself, and one whose lyrics balance between mindless (like Cascada down there) and profound. Her song "Ironic" is ironically not ironic, but it's anybody's guess as to what she was going for with that. "Head Over Feet" and "You Oughta Know" are my favourites.

Again, when disregarding the heinous allegations against him, he's quite a talented artist. The song "Thriller" admittedly isn't my favourite, though. I'm more partial to his other hits - "Beat It," "Billie Jean," and of course "P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)."
transparentworld's rating:
Though they only released two albums before breaking up, I love their songs. I pretty much appreciate all the songs on this album equally.

Waking Up - OneRepublic
Love, love, love this album. They have a song for my every mood - "Made for You," when I'm in the mood to write, "Secrets," when I'm in a conversational state of mind, "Everybody Loves Me," when I need a self-esteem boost, "Good Life," when I need to be reminded of how good I have it, "Marchin' On," for the motivation to keep going, and "Lullaby" to sleep soundly. :D
