The Javan banded pitta (Hydrornis guajanus) is a species of bird in the family Pittidae. It is found in Java and Bali.
It was formerly considered conspecific with the Bornean and Malayan banded pittas. Together, they were referenced as the banded pitta.
The global population size has not been quantified but the species is described as uncommon to locally common.
Size: 20-23 cm; weight: 93-106 g. The male's top and side of head is black with broad bright yellow supercilium; upperparts plain chestnut-brown, rump and tail deep blue.
Habitat: primary forest; more rarely in older secondary forest, coffee plantations and teak forest.
Diet: mainly insects e.g. scarabid beetles, caterpillars, termites, ants and cockroaches; also snails and earthworms.
Breeding: Jan–Jun on Java, with most clutches collected in Feb–Apr. Globular nest 19–24 cm in diameter with a side entrance.
