I have to say this may be the best way to do an album annv. A song of old stories from back when that project was new. It's personal and feels like they are giving you a gift if you remember them back when. I had to give the top spot to this. I doubt I'll see much like it again.

The Yeah Yeah Yeahs have not dropped off. I can say that without hesitation. I know a lot of the rock critics were going with other tracks from this project but this was the one that stood out to me. It's like the anthem to an unknown epic. It has a very soundtrack-like feel but in a good way.

Well, I didn't want to put this on the top because of the pop chart list but wow Joji Keeps making me like his stuff. It's a shame that album was EP-short. I guess it's a quality, not quantity thing. Still, this is Great stuff. Crafted instrumentation. deep lyrics and well-spaced.
Skinny Ape

This was a late entry into the list but I have to say despite a few minor flaws this is the best Gorillaz track I've heard in a while. I tend to like a lot from this band. However the build, the blend of instrumentation and production. The vibe and that ending, wow that ending. I could just imagine what my placement would have been if this had just come out a few months earlier.
Love and Power

Ok, this is hard to pick a list for. It left a popish at the start but the heart of it is rock. So that's why it's here. Plus the subject feels more alt feeling. Those guitars come in like an explosion and just jump the song into something wild. It's what put this one on the list and the build to it makes it work all the better than the ending which adds this creepy edgy that adds chilling final layer to it.
Candyman

Do you want free speech music? well one that isn't just a maga pandering? Yeah, this is a good counter-song. It's a playful production. However with an edgy tone that has devil-may-care energy. taking the wealth issues of the world as its target. In an economic and political climate like we now have, it's a breath of fresh air to hear people still doing music like this.
Self Care

The last time I hear this band it was with a remix of move to the ocean back in the sights of dubstep. That being said this sound is good in a way different way. A copper take on darker themes. which is an old music trick that when done well is timeless. I get the feeling of emptiness that using alcohol and weed can be if you don't work on yourself. it's a very common thing. which makes for better music. Best of luck out there Brick + Mortar.
Sensation

Late in the year yes. However, this year ended strong. It tends to sea saw from soft to hard rock and is linked by the lyrics. It's a vibe of a song. Romantic in the most rocking of ways. Sounds like something I could see at a BDSM event or something.
Evangelina

From the simple Mellody to the Wisperly Vocals this song is something that works in a moody way. I don't know what to make of it yet down want to put it down. I really don't know what to say about it but it's worth a listen.
Goth Girl Tendencies

Ok, this is getting really close to the pop list but it's too new and not big enough. However, this is very Indie sounding. It can seem childish on the surface but it defiantly taps something much more personal. this feels like music. I wouldn't be surprised if Julia going to make something to make her fans cry their eyes out at her shows. She probably already does. A for Blackbear, well he feels unneeded but as I relay this song a bunch of times he's growing on me. So it's ok. This song is Strong regardless of the Feature.
Gelato

Ok, I can see how some would call this "Soccer Mom Rock". However, it's kind of charming in its own way. It feels like the best kind of guilty pleasure music. Like junk food for the ears. Who doesn't enjoy a good dessert from time to time? It's "cheat" day everyone. By the way, what is Stradchilla?
Open A Window.

This was a last-minute change. I for some reason thought this song was older. However, all it took off was a cover song so it's no big deal. It shows what you can do with less. it's a simple concept. a simple string line. Yet it feels like so much more. Plus Tyler has some good bars at the end.

My personal list of favorite Rock and Alternative music this year.
