The group of people signifies another part of USA, accepting the new way of thinking on the decade of confusion. Nowadays they still exists, mainly in the country side and rural area. Most of them are women and children, they cultivate vegetables, produce food on their own. As the film shows, Wyatt promised to give the girl a ride as a reward of consuming their food.

Charlie, the narrator, tells the story progressively from the time "Father" uproots this American family only to set them down in the virgin jungles of Honduras. The father is a genius of sorts as well as a Harvard dropout who believes America has become "Hell" in many ways with its capitalism and poison. The father is undoubtedly a very smart man and his innovations and inventions throughout the book are truly believable and amazing.

A story of love and extremes, the pleasurably freewheeling “Captain Fantastic” centers on a family that has found its bliss in splendid, unplugged isolation. Somewhere in deepest Oregon, amid the tall pines and soaring mountains, young and old hunt and holler and drop lines from Noam Chomsky.
