Horner used to be a Meteorologist for KMOV 4 back in 2013, working with Chief Meteorologist Steve Templeton, Matt Chambers, Kent Ehrhardt, and Kristen Cornett, Prior working at KMOV, Before she came to St. Louis, Katie began her career in 1989 at WEAR-TV 3 in Pensacola, FL, There she did the evening weathercasts plus coverdd major hurricanes such as Hurricane Andrew in 1992, in 1994, She moved to Kansas City, Missouri and joined KCTV 5, She was promoted as a Chief Meteorologist for KCTV, She was at KCTV for 18 years, Katie served on the American Meteorological Association's Broadcast board, and has written a book titled, Brainstorming...A parent's guide to helping children through Severe Weather, In 2010, Katie was voted one of Kansas City's Most Influental Women.
Katie was actively involved in breast cancer awareness through the Susan G. Komen Foundation, She embedded the Race for the Cure and the survivor's luncheon for many years, In addition to the Race for the Cure, you could find, Katie emceeing or completing (sometimes both) in countless 5k's,10ks, and triathlons, When Katie's not racing, it is hard to keep her on the ground, She had enjoyed Bungee Jumping, Sky Divings, (Once with the army golden nights) flying the blue angels, red barons, Metlife Blimp, P-51 Mustang and numerous acrobatic airplanes, She also enjoys skiing, snorkeling, trail joggingand most of all road cycling, She is looking forward to hooking up with the St. Louis Bike Groups and exploring the back roads.
Katie spent her youngest days in Bellevue, NE, It was there she experienced her first tornadoes, she remembers what it felt like to be huddled in our basement or down in a dry well waiting for the storm to pass, She'll never forget how dependant they are on the weather reports, She recall how it felt to climb out of our shelter and see debris scattered around, She carry that memory with me every time she cover a severe storm, She know people need to know where the storm is, where it is heading, what time it will arrive, what to expect where it hits and when danger has passed, She seen first hand the destruction of a tornado can do and am committed to calmly and accurately giving you as much information as possible to keep you safe.
Katie's parents have lived in St. Louis for over 25 years, and very active in the St. Louis area, Katie is thrilled to living close to them again and she looks forward to making St. Louis home.
