Joseph Heller was an American author of novels, short stories, plays and screenplays. His best-known work is the novel "Catch-22", a satire on war and bureaucracy, whose title has become a synonym for an absurd or contradictory choice. Heller also served in the U.S. Army Air Corps where he flew 60 combat missions as a B-25 bombardier. He later remembered "feeling like a hero" upon returning home saying "People think it quite remarkable that I was in combat in an airplane and I flew sixty missions even though I tell them that the missions were largely milk runs."
