Description: José Luis Garci (born January 20, 1944 in Madrid, Spain) is a director, producer, writer, and actor in Spanish cinema. Garci gained early experience in cinema by writing scripts and acting. He made his directorial debut in 1970 with El Cronicón. After a relative success in one dozen of movies, in 1977 the moviegoers were impressed with Asignatura pendiente (aka Unfinished Business). Then, Garci earned worldwide recognition in 1982 with Volver a Empezar (aka Begin to Beguine), winner of the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, which was the first Oscar statuette won by Spain as well.
