John was born in Phoenix, Arizona. He grew up skateboarding and playing sports such as wrestling and football. While John was always involved in sports, he always had an interest in film and television. After graduating high school, John put himself through college at Arizona State University. After college, John moved to San Francisco and started taking acting classes. Once he moved to LA he began training under Art Cohen and Michael Petted at the Beverly Hills Playhouse.
