Jerome Lawrence was an American playwright and author. In the early years of World War II, Lawrence partnered with Robert Edwin Lee to help create Armed Forces Radio while serving together in the U.S. Army during World War II. The two built a partnership over their lifetimes, and continued to collaborate on screenplays and musicals until Lee's death in 1994. They are best known for their 1955 play "Inherit the Wind" about the Scopes Monkey Trial, which was adapted into the 1960 Oscar-nominated film of the same name directed by Stanley Kramer and starring Spencer Tracy, Fredric March and Gene Kelly.
