She is best known for playing the role of Hilda Ogden in Coronation Street from May 1964 until retiring from the Street in December 1987.
Her first role in Coronation Street was as the Landlady Mrs Webb in 1961.
She is also known for her role of Auntie Wainwrightin the long running BBC series Last Of The Summer Wine in 1988, 1989 and from 1992 until 2010.
