He gained prominence in the 1960s as a factory driver for Triumph, competing in numerous international rallies alongside co-driver John Gretner. His rallying résumé includes events like the Monte Carlo Rally, the Canadian 400 Rally, and the grueling Liège-Sofia-Liège. Thuner’s most notable achievement came at the 1965 24 Hours of Le Mans, where he and Finnish driver Simo Lampinen won the GT class for cars under 1300cc, driving a Triumph Spitfire.
