Born on February 7, 1965 in Bayamon Puerto Rico, she began her career in the late 1980s as a director and producer, and political reporter for US television and radio networks PBS NPR, FOX and Jay Sears News Services, interviewing personalities such as Russian President Mikhail Gorbachev, Lieutenant Colonel Oliver North, Vice President Al Gore, Virginia Senator George Allen, Former Governor of Virginia Douglas Wilder, as well as other international personalities.
Later she worked as executive producer, scriptwriter supervisor, and hosted several top television shows transmitted at National Radio Network 11Q, Red PAT, Teletica, Bolivision, Telemundo, Radio Puerto Rico Network, Univision and Pentagon Network. In 2003 she wrote, produced and starred in the movie, Latin Comedy a social satire about how Hispanics were manipulated by the media with the legendary Cuban comedian, director and scriptwriter, Leopoldo “Pucho” Fernandez known as “Tres Patines.”
In 2006 she was appointed with the rank of captain and served as a former Public Affairs officer for the prestigious General’s Readiness and Mobilization Group of the Puerto Rico State Guard. In 2008 Governor Rick Perry of the State of Texas appointed Dr. Janet Alvarez Gonzalez with the Rank of Major and was attached as Public Affairs Officer of the Adjutant General Staff . In 2010 Major Janet Alvarez Gonzalez received the Texas Merit Award for Outstanding Service in the Military Forces of Texas. Dr. Alvarez Gonzalez served as Senior Business Analyst V1, Project Manager and Instructor for the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security – Texas Homeland Security State Administrative Agency.
In 2010 Dr. Janet Alvarez Gonzalez reopened Planet Films LLC in Rowlett, Texas, receiving The Aspen Award in the Motion Picture & Video Production for Exceptional Marketing Success in 2013. On June 29 2015 The Foreign Press Association in Show Business (AIPE Asociación Internacional de Periodistas de Espectáculos) awarded Dr. Janet Alvarez Gonzalez the Latin Golden Award for Lifetime Achievement in journalism, film, media and marketing.
She received a Bachelor in Psychology from the Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond Virginia, a Master in Educational Media from Virginia State University in Petersburg, Virginia. Dr. Janet Alvarez Gonzalez received Ph.D. in Business Administration in Marketing and a Post Graduate Certificate in International Business from Argosy University in Sarasota Florida.
Dr. Alvarez Gonzalez has taught Mass Communications and Marketing in many universities around the world including University of Quebec in Montreal, University of Puerto Rico, Virginia State University, Universidad del Sagrado Corazón in San Juan Puerto Rico; Southern New Hampshire University, Universidad Catolica Boliviana in La Paz, Bolivia and currently at Argosy University. In addition she was the Dean of the MBA Center at Columbia University in Puerto Rico.
Dr. Janet Alvarez Gonzalez is the Chief Executive Officer of Planet Films LLC [Link removed - login to see] in Rowlett, Texas and is currently producing the films: The Portrait’s Secret, Making the Portrait’s Secret and An Anonymous Prisoner in Egypt.
