J.B. Priestley was an English novelist, playwright, screenwriter, broadcaster and social commentator known for his 1928 novel "Benighted" which was adapted into the 1963 horror comedy film "The Old Dark House" directed by William Castle. Priestley also served as an infantry officer in the British Army during World War I where he was badly wounded by a trench mortar.
