He created or supervised the cosmetic and prosthetic makeup for, according to his own estimates, over 700 films and television programs in his distinguished 60-year career. He learned the art of screen makeup with his father in Sweden in the 1920s, and then emigrated with his family to America.
Began his career under his father, Josef Norin, a prosthetics lab supervisor and head sculptor. Gustaf Norin began as a prosthetic technician, working with his father in creating the prosthetics for The Wizard Of Oz in 1939. Sons are noted makeup artists Robert Norin and John Norin.
