Formed by Robin Antin from the reality TV show āPussycat Dolls Present: Girliciousā. Before the airing of the series premiere of the show, the girls were already chosen for āGirliciousā and had started recording their debut album in late 2007. Originally the group was to be a trio, but was conceived as a quartet through a final decision of creator Robin Antin on the showās season finale. Thus far, they have received greater attention from Canadian audiences. Girlicious was nominated for āBreakout Groupā, and āReality: Music Competitionā 08. They have modeled for āSexy Hairā and they were in the October issue of the magazine from one of their photo shoots. The have also been featured in Danny Fernandesās video for his single Fantasy.
Girlicious was originally signed to Geffen Records. However as of early 2009, they are currently signed to Interscope Records.
2008ā2009: Tiffanie Andersonās departure and a new direction
Beginning in early June, 2009, rumors spread regarding Tiffanie Andersonās place in Girlicious, and whether she was still a part of the group. Speculations of Andersonās departure were sparked primarily by Girliciousā MySpace account, when all photos of Anderson were completely removed from the site, along with the heading title of their MySpace page (which previously read āNic, Nat, Tiff and Chrys, thatās who the hell we areā), changed to āNic, Nat, and Chrys, thatās who the hell we areā, removing Tiffanieās alias from the quote altogether. Further sparking rumors of Andersonās displacement from Girlicious was a Twitter update from Robin Antin, which read: āGirlicious fans! Nic, Nat & Chrys r getting ready to record a new single, new video, & tour the world! We LOVE YOU 4 LOVING GIRLICIOUS!ā
It was officially confirmed on June 11, 2009, via a YouTube video upload from Andersonās official YouTube channel, that she was no longer a member of Girlicious. In the video, Anderson cites changes with their new record label and sound, stating: āRobin Antin and the label were looking for a new direction for the groupā ⦠āthey were looking for the group to not be [urban] any longerā. She also speaks of personal differences between some of the girls, saying the group wasnāt seeing eye-to-eye on a lot of things: āa couple of the girls and I didnāt have the same values or the same morals - causing a huge conflict in the end of it all.ā
On Sunday, June 21, 2009 Girlicious appeared live at the 2009 MuchMusic Video Awards in Toronto, Canada as nominees and presenters. The girls won the award for the āMost Watched Videoā for Like Me beating other artist such as Lady Gaga and Lil Wayne. Their video for Stupid Shit came in at second place. Robin Antin officially confirmed during a press conference for the MuchMusic Video Awards that Anderson was no longer part of the group.
2009 ā Present: New lineup and New āInternational Popā Album
After embarking on their Girlicious Tour all over Canada and the eventual change in management and lineup, the remaining members of Girlicious continued making appearances in nightclubs and showrooms and performing for events. It was annouced on August 14 that Girlicious will be opening up for Britney Spears a second time after opening up for her in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. They will be opening up for her two times, the tour dates are listed at Spears official website.
Their new label, Interscope, had been working with Girlicious on their second album since May 2009, but production was put on hold so as to give way for the reinvention of the groupās sound and the eventual departure of Anderson. The group continued the planning and production phases of the groupās sophomore album in August 2009. The members have given periodic updates of the production process on their Twitter accounts, as well as potential songs and collaborations.
Potential songs previously named by the members include Grinding, Donāt Slow Down, Battlefield, Donāt Go Fallinā In Love and Tell Me Lies.
The group is set to release their new album in February 2010, as confirmed by Robin Antin. Crystina has confirmed that the album is close to being finished, stating the album will be an āInternational Popā album, unlike the debut. She has also rumoured an Australian and European release.
