George Sisler, nicknamed "Gorgeous George", was an American professional baseball first baseman and player-manager. He played in the MLB for the St. Louis Browns, Washington Senators and Boston Braves. Sisler managed the Browns from 1924 through 1926. His career batting average of .340 is the 16th highest of all time. Sisler also served as a Lieutenant in the United States Army during World War I, with fellow ball players Captain Christy Mathewson and Captain Ty Cobb in the Chemical Warfare Service unit commanded by Major Branch Rickey, the president of the St. Louis Cardinals.
