Travel back in time with Tommy, Chucky, Dil, Phil and Lil in Rugrats Time Travelers on Game Boy. The Rugrats found a time machine in their playroom and all the babies, except the scaredy-cat Chuckie, ran through and got sent back in time. Will Chuckie ever find his friends? You must help him try. First, Chuckie is transported back to the 1800s into an underground gold mine, where his best-ever friend Tommy is hiding. Remember to find the lamp first, and you can board a cart and go on a hair-raising adventure along the bumps and jumps of the mine. Once you've found Tommy, you must find the time portal (comfortingly "swirly" in a Star Wars black hole kind of way) to make it back to the Toy Palace. Then Tommy takes over, and travels further back in time to Ancient Egypt.
Complete this level (don't forget to collect baby's bottles along the way to keep your energy levels up) and the game progresses in a similar fashion through a variety of subsequent levels: find an object or a friend to make it on to the next time-travel world (Wild West, age of the Reptar, Medieval Mischief, Lunar Romp and Space exploration are just some examples). All the time, you are accompanied by one or other of your favourite Rugrats characters and the distinctive TV theme tune.
On the Game Boy Color version of the game, collect enough bonus toy bricks and you will unlock four hidden levels, where you work against the clock and feisty Angelica to get as many points as you can in the allotted time.
Parents can rest assured that Rugrats Time Travelers contains no unsuitable material, and that children as young as five will probably enjoy this game... though they may need an older brother or sister's help to make any headway. More accomplished gamers of seven, eight or nine will love completing the challenges as they work towards the hidden levels (only in the Game Boy Color version: Game Boy version does not contain these extra levels).
Fun and amusing, the game has a few hilarious moments, such as Chucky's frightened face (and hair) as he hurtles down a mine track. The controls are simple and responsive, avoiding frustration and the levels challenging enough to last more than one long car journey. This is a great video game for youngsters that will entertain for many, many hours. --Lucie Naylor
