Chilling, atmospheric and utterly terrifying!

Though the game has been around for years I've never taken interest in Resident Evil until recently. I got the game for dirt cheap and was surprised how good it is. I saw my cousin play the old Playstation version years ago and was unimpressed but for the Gamecube the graphics have been re-rendered to absolute lifelike perfection. The shadows, the sound, the ambiance and those thunderclaps...all highly, highly realistic. Play this with your Gamecube hooked up to your home theatre. And like me, you'll totally jump out of your skin at the scary parts (many of them).

My main hint is conserve your ammo. If you see a zombie, put it down right away (no funny stuff) and burn it. Take care of them one at a time. And if you don't burn them they will soon come back as Crimson Heads-faster, deadlier, scarier.

Much like the Myst series, Resident Evil is one of those games where you have to keep your eyes and ears open. Clues and puzzle pieces are scattered all over the place and you need to pay attention.

Don't be put off by the size of the mansion. After a short while it's easy to get your bearing and find your way through rather easily. Though I will be honest with the fact I did not understand most of the story. I have no idea what Trevor's diary from 1968 had to do with the plot and I really didn't get why Umbrella would create the T-Virus. I know there are various ways to finish and complete the game though. Especially seeing as how there are many clips during the end credits that did not happen in my game play (I did it in just over 8 hours). If you finish it in certain time frames the next one is always different somehow. I only managed to unlock a new outfit for Chris. Wow!

My only gripe is about those boring 'door opening' cut scenes. They really got on my nerves. Still, it's a chilling game that will freak you out if you play alone in the dark. Well worth the time and money.

Resident Evil review

Very good game. Nice story and horror scenarios. Can be very frustrating if you don't understand the puzzles or where to go next. It's a difficult game but it's not supposed to be for children or people with the same mind set as a child. Controls seem to be flawless, the camera angles are simply perfect and really adds to the suspense. The enemies are no push overs, especially the dogs and the end boss which makes this feel like a great accomplishment if you manage to complete it. The only downside to this is that there's no multiplayer but that's to be expected with such an old game. Lets just say i'd prefer to play this in single player than playing any of the new resident evil games in multiplayer, they are quite terrible compared to this game and have left the old recipes and game mechanics that made this one such a gem of a game behind. If you're looking for a horror game I would suggest this 100%.

For me I find Resident Evil to be in the horror genre so when I play the recent Resident Evil and find almost no aspect of horror in it and feel like i'm play some sort of Call of Duty clone I tend to bash it so forgive me if you find it insulting.

My ratings:
I would give the graphics 9 out of 10, simply because of how smooth it looks and how they really improved the graphics from the playstation 1 version to make it look alot more up to date. One could argue it gives a more horror feel, looking like it does on the playstation 1, that's why I didn't give it a 10.

For the Gameplay I would give it 8 out of 10, this is because it's a remake so you will pretty much know exactly what you're doing if you've played the original version, but it also has added content; extra rooms and a few more puzzles, so you won't get bored if you've played the original over multiple times.

The Controls are a 7 out of 10 for me. I've never really had a problem with the controls but they could use some tweaking when moving.

Well this remake indeed served it's purpose to surpass the orginial. There were a few glitches with this one with the controls and all. Also it was easy at first. The graphics were surpurb for that time. There were no more stupid lines like the original. But this one is still my least favorite out of all the main games of the RE series.
