That game was an excellent handheld version of everyone's favourite beer-resting device, and apart from the two main pinball tables it also had a number of inventive bonus games featuring more abstract variations on hitting a ball bearing into a hole. Pokémon Pinball Mini greatly expands on these bonus games to fill a whole cartridge with 90 of the head-scratchingly addictive fellas. The game's main Quest mode contains the lion's share of the tables, with 70 different stages that must be played through sequentially. These mini pinball tables generally involve you either getting a ball into each of the many holes or scoring a number of points within a set time limit. There are also special levels where you can catch new Pokémon to use as plungers and the whole thing has a surprising amount of subtle control thanks to some realistic-looking ball physics. There are two other game modes, Time Attack and Score Attack, each of which has an extra 10 tables to play. It's hardly the deepest of gaming experiences but Pokémon Pinball Mini is nevertheless a lot of fun, and addictive enough to brighten up many a dull bus journey.--David Jenkins
