Heavy Gear, now released on the "Essential Collection" after an original release in 1997 is starting to show its age: the game issues warnings about the advanced 3-D graphics--by modern standards, of course, they look dated and basic. Gameplay is good, although it doesn't compare to more modern competitors such as its successor Heavy Gear II, or the Mechwarrior series.

One of the good things going for it, is that Heavy Gear needs only a 90MHz processor to play--making it a good option for those of us with older machines, although you might want to consider Mechwarrior as an alternative. --Chris Hall
