A Gruesome Mix of New and Original Characters
Fans of the original arcade game's heroes will be thrilled to see the four character classes -- Warrior, Valkyrie, Elf, and Wizard -- return in this version. Additionally, each class comes in eight colors with distinctive strengths and weaknesses, and an engaging, experience-based combat system offers you the ability to earn access to four power moves as you progress through the story. Beyond these power moves, you'll acquire a wide range of unique pickups that include special bait for attracting monsters and a potion that lets you catch whole mobs of enemies in the paralysis of a glacial freeze.
To keep things dynamic, your enemies are just as varied as the skills at your disposal. You'll come face to face with 32 enemy types, including a cohort of all new monsters and favorites like Skeletons, the Thief, and Death itself.
Detailed Environments, Intricate Maps, and Original Music
Beginning in the clouds of Ascendia, you'll use 40 detailed maps to fight your way across three different realms, ending up in the lava-filled landscape of the Abyss. Full 3D on both screens of the DS and dynamic orchestral music from an original score add to immersive quality of these vast realms. With so many enemies to cut down and so much ground to cover, it's no wonder the original was a classic.
Multiplayer Options for Advanced Campaigns
Options for cooperative play let you use local connections or WiFi to move through the realms of Gauntlet with up to three friends -- you can even join a friend's game that is already in progress. And when your favorite character gains experience in cooperative play, you can then take that benefit back to your own single-player campaign. If competition is your game, then you'll appreciate the ranked multiplayer contests using the Death Match, Team Death Match, and Treasure Hoarde game modes. And, whether you're working with or against them, you can communicate with other players using VoIP technology and the Nintendo DS microphone for a more realistic connection.
