EverQuest is a huge, online only, persistent world RPG. This game is so huge that you'll blow your mind just reading the manuals let alone playing it. And to top things off, this Gold edition gives you the original game and the three expansion packs, Scars of Vellous, Ruins of Kunark, the most recent Shadows of Luclin expansion and some other goodies a poster, a couple of maps and a mousemat. First off, it should be said that if you're not an RPG fan you're unlikely to find EverQuest to your liking but if you do enjoy RPG games in any way, you'll want to buy this. If you've played and enjoyed the likes of Diablo I and the Baldur's Gate/Icewind Dale style of game, then this is undoubtedly one for your collection. The graphics and sound are not particularly cutting edge but that simply isn't the point of EverQuest.
The point is that it's a never-ending quest for enhancing your character and finding new things, new monsters to kill and areas to explore. When you first play the game you'll need to create a character (choosing from many races and classes) and then start building up experience and moving up levels to progress through the game. You'll then find yourself spending a huge amount of time online with thousands of other players.
In terms of add-ons the new areas and characters give even more depth to an already massive game. Exploring the new locations proves that Verant and Sony have managed to create a set of graphics, sounds and creatures which have formed more unique environments to explore.
The game is pretty much as perfect as it could be for people wanting a persistent universe to fight, make friends and enjoy spending time in. However, it has two stumbling blocks that you'll have to overcome first. As already noted, the manuals are rather large and, unlike many games, you'll need to read quite a lot of them before you can understand what you're doing. The second problem is that you have to pay a monthly fee before you can play the game. If you can get over these two hurdles, you'll never look back since EverQuestis truly fantastic
