Empire of the Ants - PC Games

The controls, which are similar to other RTS's and therefore fairly easy to get to grips with, are divided into two styles; menus to control resources and the mouse to control your warrior ants. The idea of taking the RTS back to its roots is appealing, with you having to worry about the onslaught of a couple of beetles rather than an armada of stealth tanks. The game, however, does have its drawbacks: the two tier action can get confusing, and by the time you realise your under attack onthe surface from a praying mantis, you've lost half your troops. Empire of the Ants is a highly ambitious game that doesn't quite pull it off. It's probably not the ideal game to start with if you are you new to the genre, and is best suited to RTS fanatics or micro-management freaks. --Stuart Miles
