Born in Leningrad.
Graduated from the Leningrad Vaganova School of Dance in 1957 (class of Vera Kostrovitskaya). Roles performed at the Leningrad Kirov Theatre of Opera and Ballet between 1957 and 1988 include the Sylph, Giselle, Odette-Odile, Aurora, Kitri, Nikia, Raymonda, Cinderella, Juliet and the Mistress of the Copper Mountain to name but a few. She created roles in the ballets Daughter of the Mountains (Asiyat), Leningrad Symphony (the Girl), Distant Planet (Planet), Shore of Hope (Woman Who Has Lost Her Beloved), Icarus (Ariadne) and Choreographic Novellas (Romance). Performed the roles of the Wife of the Friend in The Moor’s Pavane (choreography by José Limón) and Marguerite in Daydreams (choreography by Nikita Dolgushin). With Georgy Alexidze’s Chamber Ballet she performed in Three Virginal Dances.
From 1971 to 1978 she taught at the Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet. In 1984 she graduated from the department of choreography of the Leningrad State Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatoire, where since 1987 she has taught the course The Art of the Ballet Master and Coach. Awarded the rank of professor in 1994. Directed the faculty from 2011-2013.
She has supervised stagings of the classical ballets Swan Lake (1986) and The Sleeping Beauty (1987) (Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theatre),“Paquita” Grand pas and the Kingdom of Shades scene from La Bayadère (together with Natalia Yananis, Berliner Staatsoper, 1990), La Sylphide (under the direction of Oleg Vinogradov, Bolshoi Theatre, 1994), Vasily Vainonen’s The Nutcracker (New National Theatre, Tokyo, 1997) and Pas de Quatre (2002) and Raymonda (2006) (Musorgsky Opera and Ballet Theatre, St Petersburg), La Bayadère (Belgrade, 2011; Samara, 2012; Almaty, 2013), The Sleeping Beauty (Samara, 2011), Chopiniana (Krasnoyarsk, 2012) and Swan Lake (Rostov-on-Don, 2013).
She has appeared in numerous TV films (full film details are provided in Gabriela Komleva’s book Dance – Happiness and Pain... Notes of a Petersburg Ballerina, St Petersburg, 2000).
From 1985-2002 she presented various television and radio programmes about ballet.
Has worked at the Mariinsky Theatre since 1979 as a teacher and since 1989 as a ballet mistress and coach. In this capacity she has worked with dancers including Sylvie Guillem, Julia Moon, Lisa Makukha, Kaye Kyrb, Galina Mezentseva, Margarita Kullik, Elvira Tarasova, Larisa Lezhnina, Elena Martinson, Marina Chirkova, Anastasia Volochkova, Veronika Part, Sofia Gumerova, Daria Pavlenko, Tatiana Amosova, Yekaterina Osmolkina, Anastasia Kolegova and Yana Selina, Irina Golub, Oxana Bondareva, Yekaterina Chebykina.
