From an interivew in June of 2006:
* Emma, in late 2003 you've suddenly decided to change direction, from managing a successful Beauty Salon to a totally new path - modeling career. Why? What was it in modeling that attracted you so much?
Emma Spellar: I was lucky enough to own my own Beauty Salon. It was in a small market town in Suffolk, I ran it successfully for nearly 3 years, but I started to get itchy feet my family and friends knew I would one day spread my wings. I had tried to get into modelling at the age of 17 but was knocked back.
The change came in late 2003. my boy friend back then took some photos of me and entered them in a national newspaper competition. I was invited up to London for a photo shoot, the photographer asked how long I had been modelling, when I replied this was the first he was shocked.
Emma Spellar, Miss Great Britain 2004.
I got into the finals but did not win. That day travelling back from London I knew I wanted more than anything to become a model and to live in London. On my return to Suffolk I sent my pictures of to 4 London agencies and 2 of them took me on straight away and I am still with them today.
* You're a winner, time after time. You won 3rd Place Miss Hawaiian Tropic, 1st Place Miss London 2004/05, and your most notable achievement - 1st Place Miss Great Britain 2004/05, achievement most women can only dream of. What were the prizes you won? How will you explain your rare success - is it due to your perfect genes, tough efforts, or maybe luck?
Emma Spellar: I enjoyed competing in the pagents. one of my agencies entered me for all three, it is all part of learning the business I think it takes all three. Miss Great Britain was hard work it was won on text votes from the public, so for a week before I was in newspapers on the radio at events in London drumming up support for myself, and luckily it paid off. I am a very down to earth person and I get on well with people so that really helped and I must admit I have good genes - My grandparents are all in there late 70s and are still looking good, so a big thank you to them for handing them down to me.
The prizes I won were a holiday for 2 in Jamacia , hair extensions and makeup.
* How has your life changed after winning Miss Great Britain title?
Emma Spellar: Unfortunately 6 months into my reign the licence to Miss Great Britain was sold, that is why I held the title for 18 months so I set about promoting myself building up my name and my title has helped with my career.
* Please describe a typical day in your life.
Emma Spellar: All days are different. I always get up early even after a late night out, if I have a photo shoot or promotional job in the city I head in about 8.30 I go to the shoot etc. normally meet up with a friend or go shopping lunch time, if I am in London I like to go to the Gym around 5pm for a couple of hours. then out in the evening to an event or club with friends.
* Can you tell us about compliments you receive from men and women regarding your modeling career? On the other side, have you faced unpleasant remarks?
Emma Spellar: In the modelling industry you always get the negative comments but you get used to them, but on the whole people have been lovely I have got a lot of local support from back home which is great and most places I go weather it be work, socialising or charity events men and women are usually very pleasant.
* How do you keep your figure so nice, slim and trim? Is that easy?
Emma Spellar: My figure I have to work hard at, I do love my food but I have to be sensible I eat healthy salads and plenty of chicken and fish, fruit and vegetables, I go to the gym at least 5 times a week.
* You're very talented and appeared on everything from newspapers to magazines, television, promotional work, calendars, pop videos and many photo shoots. In which kind of work do you feel you can express yourself most easily and leave the strongest impression on the viewers?
Emma Spellar: I love working in television, I feel at ease with it all, I have just landed a new presenting job for Sky so I am looking forward to the challenge, but the job I love the most is promotional work as I love meeting people.
* Let's talk about your well designed and attractive website. What's its part in your career? Do most of the assignments arrive from it, or from the model agencies you work with?
Emma Spellar: My web-site has been running for about 18 months and it plays a big part in my career. If people want to find out about me or book me for work they have just to log on and all my details photos and work C.V are on there. I would say a third of my work comes through my web-site and the rest I get from my agencies.
* In the site, you operate an online shop and sell your photos. From all of your breathtaking photos, how do you choose the photos for the selling?
Emma Spellar: I usually have a photo shoot with a photographer I like working with. I choose which photos I think my fans will like and add them to my shop section. I am hoping to do a new shoot with new photos soon.
* As one of the most beautiful women in the UK, you can get any man that you want. Who is the ideal man that will win your love?
Emma Spellar: At the moment I have not got a boyfriend, at the end of last year I came out of a 3 year relationship but during that time he was very supportive.
First of all he would have to be happy with my chosen career as I am away Quite a bit, I like tall men as I am 5'7'' I like men that are truth full about themselves and that are confident in their life and work.
* What are your hobbies?
Emma Spellar: I love going to the Gym, Swimming, Horse riding , Dancing and socialising with friends.
* Do you have weaknesses? What can make you crazy?
Emma Spellar: I think everyone has weaknesses. I tend to bottle things up when I should share problems with family and friends.
Things that make me crazy are when friends let you down , the trains stop running and I cannot get back home to Suffolk to visit my family.
* What has modeling taught you so far, and did it meet with your expectations?
Emma Spellar: Modelling can be a very tough profession, but it has taught me that if you have goals in life you can achive them, if you are prepared to work hard and have a good working relationship with photographers and other people in the industry you will keep working.
* What are your future goals, and how do you plan to achieve them?
Emma Spellar: My short term future goals are doing more television work I am starting next week presenting on Sky so hopefully it will lead to other T.V work, I would also like to represented by a good American agency so I could work in the states more.
