Description: The ability to see the threads that bind everything and to be able to destroy anything just by severing it is known as the Mystic Eyes of Death Perception. Shiki Tohno, the hero of Tsukihime, has the unsettling ability to see the threads that somehow bind things together--and to destroy anything by cutting those threads. For years, he's worn a special pair of glasses so he won't see them. Lovely Arcueid Brunested is a princess of the True Ancestors, the original vampires, who's exterminating the Dead Apostles, vampires who came into existence when they were bitten by True Ancestors. The leader of the Apostles, Nemo Chaos, ranks as her most formidable foe. She demands Shiki use his abilities to aid her campaign; she insists Shiki owes her because he killed her, which he has no memory of doing. Although it includes strikingly violent scenes, Tsukihime unfolds at a leaden pace. Shiki's uncertain memory, the rigidly formal household his sister supervises, and Arcueid's wordy explanations all slow the story to a crawl. (Rated 16 and older: violence) --Charles Solomon
