Description:
The Chrysanthemums is a surprisingly contemporary and sensitive account of a woman's inner struggle to be valued in a male-dominated society. Set in California's Salinas Valley in the 1930's. It uses a a farm wife's brief encounter with an itinerant tinker to examine the forces that prevent her from becoming what she is capable of being.
Beautifully photographed on location near John Steinbeck's home in Salinas Valley, this video not only illuminates the conflict in the story itself, but adds a historical perspective to the issues it raises.
