Based on a manga by Kazurou Inoue, the fan service comedy-romance Midori Days (2004) boasts one of the weirdest plots in anime history. Seventeen-year-old Seiji "Mad Dog" Sawamura is the "delinquent's delinquent," known for using his "demon right hand" in fights. Seiji complains he has "no girlfriend but my right hand," then an adorable miniature girl appears where his right hand used to be. Midori Kasugano, a rich girl from an elite school, has nurtured a crush on Seiji for years; now she's somehow joined to him while her body sleeps in her bedroom. Midori is a familiar anime type: the smart, cute, cheerful doormat who's only too happy to cook and clean for the jerk she adores. Seiji suggests a juvenile version of Eikichi Onizuka from GTO. It's hard to understand what audience Midori Days is intended for: girls will find the fan-service nudity, violence, and gross humor off-putting; the slushy romantic moments will bore boys. (Rated 13 and older, more suitable for 16 and older: violence, nudity, profanity, alcohol use, sexual and toilet humor) --Charles Solomon
