Like Fancy Lala, the broadcast series Full Moon (2002) involves a young girl juggling two identities. Twelve-year-old Mitsuki wants to be a singer because she promised her sort-of-boyfriend she'd become one. Her disproving grandmother's opposition doesn't deter her. Kindly Dr. Wakaoji say she needs an operation for a malignant growth in her throat, but she refuses because it might damage her voice.
