It's all in the service of Ilpalazzo and ACROSS as our favorite set of social misfits once again plunges into the breach as the plot sickens... er, thickens... in the fourth incredibly bizarre volume of Excel Saga!
As this madcap spoof reaches its midpoint, the plot careens as wildly as a runaway grocery cart on Lombard Street in San Francisco. As they execute Lord Ilpalazzo's plans, Excel and Hyatt/Hatchan are assisted by two androids, both named Ropponnatsu. One is a parody of the cutesy cat-girls in many anime series; the other spoofs cyber-babes like Steel Angel Kurumi. Hatchan dies in almost every episode, leaving Excel to pick up the pieces. Episode 17 satirizes the animation process and anime art collectors, with Hatchan noting that no one does animation on cels anymore. A series of mini-parodies follows that includes send-ups of Sailor Moon, Rocky, The Simpsons, Mickey Mouse, and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. It doesn't make much sense or advance Lord Ilpalazzo's plans, but Excel fans aren't like to care.
