THREE SMART GIRLS GROW UP (1939) Penny has a knack for matchmaking and realizes that her own two sisters Joan and Kay could use her unsolicited help since one of them is in love with the others boyfriend. Often noted as Deanna Durbin's first mature role, this breezy, lighthearted valentine to Durbin is directed by Henry Koster (The Bishops Wife, 1947) and co-stars Robert Cummings and William Lundigan. BECAUSE OF HIM (1946) A young waitress with big dreams attempts to pass herself off as a seasoned actress, and even succeeds in winning the revered role opposite a famous theatre star when her deception is uncovered. FOR THE LOVE OF MARY (1948) Mary Peppertree (Deanna Durbin) plays a White House switchboard operator, and she breaks off her engagement to be married. Pursued by two new suitors, this screwball political comedy included Durbin's final screen appearance.
