One of the dancers in the Ziegfield Follies, she was especially known for her beauty. Later, she was a Broadway actress, appearing in such shows as "On Your Toes," "Anything Goes," and "Girl Crazy."
She was only 18 when she first married the jazz musician Charlie Teagarden in 1931, whom she soon divorced; they had kept the marriage secret in order not to harm her career. By 1935, she was rumored to be engaged to Don Hagerty, a Yale student, though they did not marry. She re-married Teagarden; their daughter, Druanne, was born in 1939.
