Born in 1939 in Leamington Spa, England, Hobbs competed in everything from Formula One and IndyCar to IMSA and NASCAR, earning a reputation as one of the most versatile drivers of his generation. His endurance racing credentials are particularly impressive, with 20 appearances at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and podium finishes in both 1969 and 1984. He claimed the 1971 Formula 5000 Championship in the United States, won the Trans-Am title in 1983, and made multiple appearances at the Indianapolis 500, finishing fifth in 1974
