Daniel Topping

Daniel Topping was born on June 11, 1912 in Greenwich, Connecticut, USA as Daniel Reid Topping. He was married to Charlotte Lillard, Alice Lowthers, Kay Sutton, Sonja Henie and Arline Judge. He died on May 18, 1974 in Miami Beach, Florida, USA. Bought the New York Yankees in 1945 with Del Webb and Larry MacPhail, father of Lee MacPhail and grandfather of Andy MacPhail. In 1964, he and Webb (they had bought out MacPhail years earlier) sold it to William Paley and his company, CBS. Paley sold the team in 1973 to a group of investors led by George M. Steinbrenner III.
