Charlotte had a drinking problem and her death was caused by an alcohol related illness. Her death certificate states she died from either cirrhosis of the liver or from an esophageal hemorrhage. There was no autopsy done.
Her career in Hollywood began in 1921 when she won a beauty contest in Chicago. The prize was a film contract at Christie studios.
