Yami Yugi, known as Dark Yugi in Japan, is a fictional character in the Yu-Gi-Oh! media franchise. Within the context of the story, Yami is the spirit of an Egyptian pharaoh trapped within the Millennium Puzzle, until he was released when Yugi Mutou completed the Puzzle, allowing Yami to take control of Yugi's body.

After Yugi became fully aware of Yami's existence, Yugi could voluntarily give control of his body to Yami. Over the course of the story, Yami (with help from Yugi and his friends) attempts to rediscover his past life and memories, including his real name: Atem.
