Wiress was a female tribute from District 3. She was known for winning an unspecified Hunger Games, and then participated again in the 75th Hunger Games. In the second set of Games, she was at first rejected by many to be an ally, except for Katniss Everdeen who wanted her as one. She later proved her worth when she revealed to her allies that the arena was shaped and operated like a clock by saying “Tick, tock” repetitively until Katniss figured it out. Knowing this, Katniss and the others were able to predict the devastating obstacles the Gamemakers arranged. Wiress showed that she was always one step ahead of the others, but could only be understood by her loyal companion Beetee, and eventually Katniss. She was given the nickname "Nuts" by Johanna over the years since her victory.
