The Lady of Shalott (Tennyson)
According to Tennyson's version of the legend, she was a mysterious maiden imprisoned on the Island of Shalott for fear of a curse and, lest this curse come upon her, was to never gaze directly out to nearby Camelot; instead, she was doomed to view the world only through her mirror, weaving what she saw into tapestry, until, upon a day, the brilliant reflection of bold Sir Lancelot flashed before her eyes.
