The Core (コア Koa) is a boss in Cave Story. It resembles a gigantic green seed with a large mouth. The Core is battled in a chamber near the Labyrinth. It is the "heart of the island" and if it destroyed, the island will start falling until the player has defeated Ballos. It has multiple smaller core fragments floating around it.
