Sookie St. James (portrayed by Melissa McCarthy) is a supporting character on The Gilmore Girls. Next to Rory, she is the best friend of Lorelai. We get to know her as the chef of the Independence Inn and she eventually co-owns the Dragonfly Inn with Lorelai. Sookie is a quirky, fun-loving person who is always bubbly and upbeat. However, she is often overly perfectionist with her food creations, and tends to create havoc in the kitchen when she is in top form. In season one Sookie goes on a date with the Inn's produce man, Jackson Belleville. The two get into fights over food orders and other small things as they did before they began dating. Their first date begins awkwardly as a double date with Lorelai who is set up with Jackson's cousin Rune, but leads to a relationship between the two. They fall in love and get married in season two finale. During the show Sookie and her husband have two children: Davey and Martha with another on the way at the end of season seven.
