Shari (portrayed by actress, Jenna Elfman) from the movie, "EDtv" (1999) - is Ray Pekurny’s girlfriend at the beginning of EDtv, though their relationship is troubled from the start. When Ed discovers that Ray is cheating on her, he feels compelled to visit Shari and apologize on Ray’s behalf. That encounter, mixed with Shari’s drunken, brutally honest rant about Ray being a “bad lay,” unexpectedly makes her a focal point of entertainment for the viewing audience. Shari’s unfiltered personality and vulnerability resonate with Ed, and the two realize they share feelings for one another, leading to the beginnings of a romantic relationship.

However, Shari quickly becomes a victim of the harsh spotlight of reality television. Though she genuinely cares for Ed, she finds herself ridiculed by the public, who perceive her as “unappealing.” Her discomfort with the constant cameras and audience scrutiny creates a rift between her and Ed, especially as Ed begins prioritizing the show’s popularity over their personal relationship. Unlike Ed, who is initially swept up in the excitement of fame, Shari values her privacy, dignity, and authentic emotional connection.

Shari’s integrity shines through when she makes the difficult decision to leave town rather than continue being exploited for ratings. Her departure is not out of spite but self-preservation, as she refuses to let her life be dictated by viewers and producers. Despite this, she remains in love with Ed and reenters his life at a critical moment, disguised at a movie theater. Their reunion reveals that her feelings never faded—she simply needed Ed to choose her over the show.

By the film’s conclusion, after Ed exposes the producers and brings Ed TV to an end, Shari and Ed rekindle their relationship on their own terms, free from the cameras and the audience’s judgment.
