Serena Stevens is the replacement for Det. Megan Wheeler (Julianne Nicholson), who left as partner of Zack Nichols (Jeff Goldblum) at the end of season eight ("Major Case") and for Det. Alexandra Eames (Kathryn Erbe), who left with her partner Robert Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio) for the remainder of the ninth season after the 2-part-premiere, "Loyalty".
