2. Power Girl

Posted : 1 year, 5 months ago on 17 November 2022 10:52

Power Girl is known for many thingsā€¦strength, flight, speed, reflexes and the like. However, for all the things sheā€™s known for, all pale in comparison to how well sheā€™s known for her, ahem, assets.

One look at Power Girl and youā€™ll see that sheā€™s been developed in ways that most of the other hottest female superheroes in history havenā€™t. Now, understand that this doesnā€™t mean sheā€™s on this list because of it. No, not even close. Sheā€™s on this list because her confidence and willingness to defend whatā€™s right is unbelievably hot. That is, sheā€™s here because the traits and qualities that arenā€™t visible shine brighter than the ones that are.

A good movie

Posted : 8 years, 10 months ago on 6 July 2015 10:19

I remember very well when this movie was released. At the time, there was quite some buzz about it. Indeed, back then, Quentin Tarantino was suddenly the hottest thing in Hollywood and it was his second feature length screenplay (his first one was ā€˜True Romanceā€™). Indeed, following his new success with ā€˜Reservoir Dogsā€™, Tarantino was a hot property and everything he had done before was quickly released to profit from the hype as much as possible. Still, the script was rewritten so much by Oliver Stone, producer Richard Rutowski and screenwriter David Veloz that eventually the finished film beared little resemblance to Tarantino's original script. Anyway, how was the movie itself? Even though it was really controversial when it was released and even though it was obvious they tried to make a 90ā€™s version of ā€˜Clockwork Orangeā€™, I donā€™t think it was really that amazing. Donā€™t misunderstand me, I thought it was still a pretty good movie and I enjoyed the kinetic directing but, to be honest, even though Stone is pretty clever, he is not Kubrick and I thought that Mickey and Mallory were rather shallow and not really interesting. To conclude, in my opinion, it is actually far from being a real masterpiece but it is still a pretty good flick though.

Natural Born Killers review

Posted : 10 years, 8 months ago on 8 September 2013 08:28

Just like any other love story, just with a little...bite. I could always re-watch it and recommend it to everyone. This is probably my favorite movie. No, I havenā€™t watched it lately, but all in all i think Iā€™ve watched it 50 times and I am pretty sure I could watch it 50 times more. So obviously I had to have a review of it here on my Listal. I used to own a snake ring too, my boyfriend from 10 years ago found it very romantic and so we both got the same type of snake rings that Mickey and Mallory Knox had.

Yes, to me it is a very romantic movie, I canā€™t write any more details about the romanticism in it because I would unwantingly incorporate spoilers in this review and I donā€™t wanna spoil anyoneā€™s fun who hasnā€™t watched it yet. Oh, by the way - youā€™re fuckinā€™ insane if you didnā€™t watch this movie at least once in your life. So go do it. Now.

It has everything a good movie should have - a perfect soundtrack, great actors, intensity, more intensity, gore, action, speed, passion, shock value, fast pace, drama, tragedy, humor, sex, everything that is good in a movie. I think that if a movie could be the equivalent of an orgasm this movie would be it.

Violence Overload

Posted : 11 years, 3 months ago on 26 January 2013 10:38

My brother was always a big Quentin Tarantino fan and so he has most of his work on DVD so I was welcome to liberate any of them from his shelf while he was out whenever I wanted, which I did with a lot of films, but it wasnā€™t until not very long ago that I actually properly watched a Tarantino film, (think I had seen Kill Bill before maybe?) and thatā€™s when my obsession began, I had to see all his movies as soon as possible, so I got which ones I could from my brother and hunted down most of the rest by other means. At the time I didnā€™t realise he had only written this one, but I didnā€™t really care either as this is before I began to actually like the guy himself.

I was also already a big fan of Woody Harrelson after seeing him in one of my favourite movies, at the time, Zombieland, I think he is a really underrated actor who gives great performances and is really fun. I was also planned to hunt a lot of his movies down too, but Natural Born Killers allowed me to kill two birds with one stone as it were. Of course I was also aware that the legendary Tommy Lee Jones was in this, who I think is also a great actor and I have enjoyed watching most of his roles as he always aces the performance. Other actors/Actresses in this film Iā€™m also now a big fan of are Juliette Lewis and Robert Downey Jr.

When I first watched this film, after about 10 minutes I started to think Iā€™d been sold an unfinished version or something because of the strange way it was filmed, however the effect grew on me and by the end of the film I was used to it, and liked it. Quite a bit of the movie, especially the flashbacks of how Mickey and Mallory met, are filmed in a sort of way that would be found on American sitcoms and stuff, with cheers from the crowd being heard and other cues like that, I thought it was pretty weird for that type of stuff to be in a film, but this is a pretty messed up film anyway and so I let that go. And when I say messed up, I mean in a good way of course!

The movie begins with what seems a relatively normal couple, in a diner, and then Juliette Lewisā€™ character Mallory starts to dance and then before you know it everyone in the place is dead, except the one survivor to tell the tale of course. The movie continues to be full of murder and flashing images of evil memories and demons. It tells the story of how the two lovers, fall for each other, get separated and then reunited, which sounds like a nice tale, but they actually kill a load of people along the way as well, well 52 to be exact, and then thereā€™s the prison break...

I think this is one of them movies that all hardcore movie lovers should see, as itā€™s something different, with pretty dark themes, including humour, excitement and lots of violent action!

Odd duo Stone and Tarantino create something dark!

Posted : 13 years, 9 months ago on 24 July 2010 12:19

'A very dark and disturbing film' came straight to my mind when I had finished watching it! It is a very powerful, amazingly filmed story that has received lots of complaints, release issues and other problems. I do feel that the film perhaps has inspired more people to commit these crimes like some of the moments of brutality, death and punishment would be demonstrated nowadays. I mean, violence in our world are inspired by violent films unfortunately so got to put up with it. Anyway, Natural Born Killers really took hold of me about half way through and I thought 'this could be another 5-star film' but during the last half of the film, I just lost the grip of it a bit and drifted it down to 4-stars.

It is about the misadventures of Mickey and Mallory: outcasts, lovers, and serial killers. They travel across Route 666 conducting psychedelic mass-slaughters not for money, not for revenge, just for kicks. Glorified by the media, the pair become legendary folk heroes; their story told by the single person they leave alive at the scene of each of their slaughters. Woody Harrelson's performance as Mickey Knox was amazing! The character is based on the infamous real-life spree killer known as Charles Starkweather. As a child, Mickey was abused by both his parents and witnessed his father commit suicide when he was ten. Mickey is shown throughout the movie as an efficient killer, with knowledge of firearms and knife throwing. It is also shown that he knows how to kill with his bare hands such as the time in prison when he demonstrates killing a man by breaking his neck during a yoga session. Juliette Lewis was awesome too as Mallory Knox! After Lewis's breathtaking powerful breakthrough performance in Martin Scorsese's Cape Fear, she once again delivers a performance that is a bit different but shows that she was back in the early 90s a great actress! As a child, Mallory suffered physical, verbal, emotional and sexual abuse at the hands of her father. Mallory devotes herself to Mickey, stating he's her one true love. Mallory often tells stories and fantasies about her and Mickey living in paradise. Mickey often quotes, "That is poetry". Out of the two, Mallory seems to be the more aggressive, showing signs of being an uncontrolled psychopath with zero empathy for the people she kills. One example is when she and Mickey kill their last victim, Wayne Gale (Downey Jr.). Mallory continues shooting Gale repeatedly after he is dead. Tom Sizemore, Robert Downey Jr. and Tommy Lee Jones were pretty awesome too!

Unlikely duo Oliver Stone and Quentin Tarantino have together crafted together something gruesome and something extraordinary. Also, I would say that they have crafted an influence to criminals to commit these kind of crimes seeing as the characters within the film actually enjoyed murdering those people. Quentin has produced a pretty cool story too as well as gruesome obviously.

Overall, Natural Born KillerS is a very gruesome, dark, psychologically terrifying film that I perhaps wouldn't watch again but did really enjoy watching.

Strangely Entertaining.

It took me awhile to finally see this film, even though I first heard of it a couple years ago. I really thought nothing of it at the time. Being a pretty big fan of Woody Harrelson's body of work wasn't really a big factor for my interest in this movie. The main factor was how the plot looked: unique, great, and fun to watch.

I would be lying to you If I said this wasn't one of the weirdest films I had ever seen. It has a great element to it, just very twisted and odd. It was filmed like a sitcom or a music video.

After a little while I was actually considering stopping the movie, than gave it another 15-20 minutes to sink in, and it did. To tell you the truth, I did feel wrong watching it at times. With all the odd yet disgusting ways they killed people, while at the same time showing little to no emotion. After awhile I got used to that though, and really started to like it.

"Natural Born Killers" packs enough violence, humor, and entertainment to keep you interested for the full hour and a half plus of duration time. Not to mention, the story was excellent, along with the characters.

Watch this film at your own risk, but overall, I highly recommend it. Viewer discretion is definitely advised.

8.2/10
