Papa-Capim is a comic book character created by Maurício de Sousa, protagonist of the Papa-Capim Gang. With a name inspired by the bird Papa-capim-capuchinho, he is a young native Brazilian - a "curumim" (in the often used Tupi-Guarani term) - who resides in the Amazon Forest. He has a friend named Cafuné and his girlfriend Jurema. He wears a red loincloth, likes to hunt and fish, and cultivates the legends and culture of the Indians. Fight for the preservation of the forest, fighting deforestation and poachers, and defending it from fires, factories, pastures and protecting the planet from global warming.

He was created in 1960, appearing in O Diário Juvenil, an eight-page black and white tabloid newspaper. On September 8, 1963, he also appeared in number 1 of the colorful supplement "Folha". In the early 1970s, Papa-Capim and his friends had a good deal of space in the newspapers, but in the comics they rarely appeared.
